Parent Involvement Committee Charge • Develop a process to support family involvement on the MICC, i.e. accessibility to information, provide input to MICC documents, support for family members on subcommittees by mentoring and providing feedback when needed, develop a process to ensure support for families when sharing personal stories and experiences. • The committee will ensure family perspectives are an integral component of the Early On system, including policy, procedures and practices. • Family members have unique needs for full involvement and may require different kinds of support to participate in a meaningful way. This committee will support family members in being prepared to participate as equal partners with their professional counterparts. This support may include leadership mentoring, information, and opportunities for ongoing learning. • Develop and maintain a policy for reimbursement for MICC family members that is consistent with Federal and State policy.

  5. Parent Involvement Committee Work Plan • The committee will be kept informed of information, activities and trainings developed by the grantees. • A family member will on the review team for the RFP for the data collection project. • The committee will have input on questions for the family survey. • The committee will review data related to the five family outcomes and suggest additional activities. • The committee will review the Reference Bulletin to be written by the Department of Education for improving family outcomes related to the family survey.

  6. Family Input to the Child Outcome Data Collection Process • Decision to use three data sources to measure child outcomes. -assessment tool -observation -family input

  7. Rating Guidelines and Decision Tree • ECO Center tool adopted by the Michigan Comprehensive System for Personnel Development contractor to use with the Child Outcome Summary Form (COSF). • Conversation starters also shared with providers to help facilitate the ratings for the COSF.

  8. Support to facilitate family Involvement • Financial Support document • Contractor and Liaison to provide support to family SICC members • Conference Call Meetings • Expectation of system contractors to work with family members • Parent Partners in sister agencies

  9. Oakland County, Michigan • Parents work as contractual consultants, handling the initial referral. For consistency the same parent consultant does a follow up with the family assisting with and sharing info regarding family rights, desired services, programs and activities in their communities.) • Parent consultants serve as mentors for families in Early On • Parent consultants partner with Coordinator to do trainings for families and professionals regarding parent involvement, service coordination, etc.
