Young people and adults spoke openly about their experience of poor mental health and talked about times where they have challenged stigma and discrimination on behalf of themselves or others including friends and family. • During the public engagement activities there were some examples of stigma during conversations including: “It’s all in the mind, it’s what you make of it, if you think negatively you will be negative.” Time To Talk Day Discussions

Time To Talk Day Discussions Addressing the Elephant in the Room • In Barnard Castle many people avoided the ‘Elephant in the room’ showing that people are uncomfortable initiating a conversation about something outside of their comfort zone. • The Elephant did have a positive impact with businesses asking for the Elephant to visit their stores and Hay’s Travel put photos and messages supporting the Time To Talk campaign on their Social Media Sites.
