Status of Acoustics, Ultrasound and Vibration at the NMISA Ian Veldman 13 June 2012
Recent and future developments • Acoustics • Reciprocity calibration system in conformance with IEC 60194-2: 2009 • LSP1 & LSP2 • Magnitude and phase • Acquired a commercial reciprocity calibration system to be implemented during 2012 • Vibration • Extended low frequency capability down to 0,4 Hz • Developing a system for measuring transverse sensitivity of accelerometers in compliance with ISO 16063-31 • Designed an air-bearing exciter table. Performance validation to commence later this year
Recent and future developments • Ultrasound • Finalising the appointment of an Underwater Acoustics/Ultrasound metrologist • Re-establish the NMISA underwater Acoustic National Standard • Initiate a project plan to establish Ultrasound Power measurement standards at the NMISA
Development & Comparison Activities • Acoustics • Participation in CCAUV.A-K5 software validation project • CCAUV.A-K5 • APMP.AUV.A-S1 • Reciprocity calibration of LSP1 & LSP2 microphones
Development & Comparison Activities • Vibration • CCAUV.V-K2 • AFRIMETS.AUV.V-S2 (Pilot laboratory) • APMP.AUV.V-S1 • AFRIMETS.AUV.V-S3 • Primary calibration of accelerometers < 1 Hz • Low frequency air-bearing exciter table • Transverse sensitivity calibration of accelerometers (ISO 16063-31)
AFRIMET Activities • Provided training for KEBS metrologist in Acoustics and Vibration • Assist in arranging inter-laboratory comparison, AFRIMETS.AUV.V-S3
