The Caribbean • The Caribbean can be divided into 6 destination groupings 1. Bermuda • Not really the Caribbean, same latitude as Charleston, South Carolina • Considered part of the Caribbean for tourism purposes because of its physical characteristics and dependency on tourism.
2. Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos • Chain of islands moving southeast from Florida towards Puerto Rico
3. Greater Antilles • The larger islands south/southeast of Florida • In order from west to east: • Caymans • Cuba • Jamaica • Hispaniola (Haiti, DR) • Puerto Rico
4. Lesser Antilles • Smaller islands forming a “crescent” south from Puerto Rico to Venezuela • The most popular islands from North to South are: • Virgin Islands • St. Thomas • St. Martin • Antigua • Guadeloupe • Martinique • Barbados • Trinidad & Tobago
5. ABC Islands • Small island cluster northwest of Caracas, Venezuela • West to East: Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, and islands of Venezuela (Margarita, & Tortuga)
