History • Earlier inhabitants included the Ahwahneechee people before European immigrants arrived in the mid-1800s. • The early Yosemite Valley was extremely rugged and before the construction in 1907, it was a challenged for travelers to reach the valley by horseback. • Indian people from over 8,000 years ago made use of the local ecosystem, plant and animal resources. The trees, oaks, and grasslands displays early Indian rituals practiced by the native people.
Geology Description • Yosemite National Park is consisted of mostly glaciated landscape. • The park’s majority landscape is the result of glaciers and underlying rocks colliding and interacting with one another • Geologists have studied the many landforms created by the glacial characteristics of Yosemite which include U-shaped canyons, waterfalls and jagged peaks.
Biology • The geology of Yosemite National Park allows for the variation of ecosystems to coexist together. • The multiple ecosystems are home to 22 reptile species, 150 species of birds, and a total of 250 species of vertebrates. • California contains over 7,000 plant species and about 20% are within Yosemite National Park.
Biology • A high diversity of wildlife species is allowed due to mild, low-elevated climate that houses a variety of habitat types and plant species. • A large variety of animal species live in Yosemite National Park which include black bear, bobcat, gray fox, mountain king snake, and spotted owl. • Yosemite’s habitat is mostly mixed of varieties of forests like coniferous forests, sugar pine, white fir, and a few strands of giant sequoia trees.
Park Attractions and Extras • Yosemite’s activities can range from climbing, hiking, biking, birdwatching, rafting, fishing, horseback riding, snowshoeing, stargazing, swimming, and even auto touring! • Also, the geology of the park creates Yosemite's iconic landmarks that include Yosemite Valley, Yosemite Falls, HetchHetchy, Nevada Falls, and the famous Clark Range and the Cathedral Range.
