About ICLEI  A membership organization of local governments and their associations dedicated to a sustainable urban environment • 500+ members from 6 continents & 68 countries • Nearly 300 Million People  A voice for local government at national and international policy forums  Organized in 1990 under the sponsorship of the UN Environment Program and the International Union of Local Authorities

  4. CCP Objective • To build a worldwide movement of local governments to achieve measurable reductions in local greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and enhance urban livability.

  5. CCP Profile • Initiated in 1993 mostly in developed/industrialized countries • More than 600 local government participants from six continents • Use’s Five milestone target oriented action plans

  7. Milestones #1: Conduct Baseline Emissions Inventory & Forecast #2: Establish Emissions Reduction/Avoidance #3: Develop a Local Action Plan (identify measures) #4: Implement Action Plan/Measures #5: Monitor and Verify Progress

  8. CCP Software • User-friendly • Contains detailed protocol for quantifying greenhouse gas and air pollution emissions • Covers emissions from local government operations and from community transport and energy use

India CCP Campaign • India CCP campaign supported by USAID • Three year old campaign with 17 cities from 13 states (Agra, Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Dehradhun, Guntur, Guwahati, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Madurai, Sangli, Shimla, Udaipur, Vadodara & Amby Valley) • Population coverage > 20 Million with 8 cities of > 1 Million people • Energy budget of US $ 35 Million
