Update of Physical Properties of Galaxies with Peculiar Nuclei WORKSHOP JOSÉ LUIS SÉRSIC Instituto de Astronomía Teórica y Experimental, UNC, CONICET, Córdoba , 11 y 12 de Abril de 2013 , Miriani Griselda Pastoriza Departamento de Astronomia IF/UFRGS Porto Alegre, Brasil
Summary Part I - Galaxies with peculiar nuclei . Morgan’s work at Yerkes Observatory , University of Chicago - Galaxies with peculiar Nuclei . Sersic & Pastoriza’s works at Cordoba Observatory , UNC Part II - High resolution observations of SP galaxies ( scale < 1 “) show a complex nucleus: Starburst & Seyfert nucleus -The accretion disk of NGC1097 -The dusty torus of NGC 1808
Bosque Alegre Observatory , Cordoba, Argentina Observations: Newtonian focus of 60”inch telescope at Bosque Alegre . Instruments:Newtonian camera & nebular spectrograph
From 174 galaxies brighter than m=11.0 mag, a fraction of 14% of the sample shows peculiar nuclei, all of them are bar spirals .
Photometric properties of the nuclei 500pc < Ring radius < 2 Kpc
Rings are formed by gas accumulation at Lindblad resonances, under the continuous action of gravity torques from the bar pattern. Buta & Combes 1996 http://ned.ipac.caltech.edu/level5/Rings/frames.html
Formation of Inner ring • Figure 75. Simulation of an inner ring from Schwarz (1979) and Simkin et al. (1980), showing the evolution from a spiral pseudoring (upper left) to a more closed ring pattern (lower right).
