  1. Othello Day 4 English 12

  2. Warm up-Performances Get back into your groups from yesterday. You have 10 minutes to prep and then we will do the scenes. Remember: • You must use the crown for Brabantio, the sombrero for Roderigo, and the witch hat for Iago • Pick any prop of choice for other characters. Remember, we will pick a class prop for Iago later-now you

  3. First Impressions: Othello • We saw Othello first time in this scene. Is he what you thought he would be? Is he respected by his associates? How do you know? • What contrasts are there between the way Iago, Roderigo, and Brabantiohave described Othello and the way he looks and behaves when he actually appears? • What is Iago’s hat/prop

  4. 1.2.60-65 What are some differences in attitude between Cassio and Iago in their short conversation (1.2.60-65)? Why is Brabantio convinced that Othello must have used witchcraft on his daughter? Why does he have difficulty believing that his daughter could run to Othello’s “sooty bosom”?

  5. In your Journals • Describe Othello as you see him in your imagination. Say which actor or type of actor you would choose to play the role. You may choose to draw a picture of him as well • Iago swears in line 38 “by Janus.” Janus is a Roman two-faced god. Give examples of Iago’s two-faced behavior. How might an actor convey this?
