  1. Chloroplast • By: Jorge Perdomo and Meily Chico • Period 5

  2. What does it look like? Chloroplast Usually 2 or more chromosomes per cell Located in plant cells

  3. What does it do? • Chloroplast is a generator for the factory. • It can only be compared to a photovoltaic cell (solar energy panel) • This solar power plant converts solar energy into chemical energy for the cell. • GO GREEN!!!

  4. Deal or No Deal? • Long ago some cells made a deal with chloroplast. They had an endosymbiosis. Chloroplast was a separate organism before joining the cell and providing food for it. • This “deal” really worked out for those primitive cells. • Based on its track record, you can see that chloroplast is an essential and trustworthy part of your business.

  5. Why Choose Chloroplast? • Without chloroplast plant cells will not carry out the process of photosynthesis. • Photosynthesis uses water and Carbon-dioxide to produce Oxygen and water, which is very inportant for other organisms. • The algae, plants and bacterias that use photosynthesis provide solar energy for all organisms because they are rpoducers who allow consumers (herbivores and carnivores) to get energy (the food chain).

  6. Cell membrane

  7. The cell membrane is the best in the market!!! Its is basically made up of a double layer of lipids which surrounds your entire cell. It is located as a body guard on the outside of the cell taking care of what goes in and out of the cell. We will protect you’re cells from viruses and toxins. Our organelle will also keep your cells shape in place.

  8. Cells only require one cell membrane!!! This organelle is much more important than the others. Why? Well because it holds the cell together and protects it from harm. Without the cell membrane the cell wall would not be able to function!!!

  11. Centrioles!!!!!!!!!!!! Maria Niebles & Paola Roldan Period 5 October 6th, 2009

  12. What are Centrioles? • organelle. found in mostly animal eukaryotic cells. they are not in plant cells! •  available to organisms with eukaryotic cells, but not plants! so if you are a plant, sorry but you're not eligible for this product! • they are made of microtubules. • they are put to work during the processes of mitosis & meiosis. •  they are usually found near the nucleus, & when the cell is not dividing, they cannot be seen! • They magically disappear! who doesn't want to buy a disappearing organelle?!

  13. Why should YOU buy? • they help the cell when it comes to divide. *so if you want to reproduce more cells, you better have Centrioles or the cell won't divide!

  14. Anyone who is anyone is buying centrioles! I LOVE MY NEW CENTRIOLES!

  20. Mitochondria, Your Very Own Power Plant By: Christian Brödermann and Noah Spiner or שפינרנח (That’s Hebrew, by the way) Christian’s Noah’s

  21. What is a Mitochondria? • A Mitochondria® is the power plant for your cells, and without it, life as we know it would not exist. • Some scientists believe that Mitochondria® used to be primitive bacteria, thanks to the amazing fact that Mitochondria®have their own DNA, and that Mitochondria® can live outside their host cells, along with their plant-based cousins, the Chloroplast® (Sold Separately). • The mitochondria is located in the cytoplasm. The number of mitochondrion varies between each cell depending on how much energy it needs.

  22. What does a Mitochondria actually do? • Mitochondria® work with a large amount of complex chemical reactions to make ATP (adenosine triphosphate) , the “battery” your cells use for energy. • as well as “recharging” ADP (adenosine diphosphate) , a slightly used form of ATP • Mitochondria® also help recycle AMP (adenosine monophosphate) , a completely drained molecule of ATP. • Mitochondria® can and will help your cells work and do the things it has to do, along with making ATP for energy, plus it can live alone for a short period of time, which should be long enough for it to be either engulfed by another cell or recycled, and used for energy by another cell

  23. What can a Mitochondria do for you? • In order to explain the power of Mitochondria®, Think of things you do everyday: breath, walk, think, and eat; what do these have in common? • They all need Mitochondria® to work, and if you want to do these things, buy a Mitochondria® today! For just 5 easy payments of $1.00, you can have all the Mitochondria® you want! With the power of ATP, your cells power your body, but they can’t do that without the amazing Mitochondria®. What’s that, you want to have your heart beat? Well, get some Mitochondria® so your brain tells your heart to do just that!

  24. The End!!!! A Padawan Production (Noah’s Idea, Laugh at him!)

  25. ARE YOU TIRED OF BEING AFRAID OF EXPLOSION DUE TO OVER H2O ABSORPTION, HAVING TROUBLE STAYING IN SHAPE, EXTREME FLIMSYNESS, BEING TO VULNERABLE TO THE ENVIRONMENT OR JUST CANT SEEM TO PULL OFF THAT STATUESQUE LOOK? BUT DON’T WORRY WE HAVE THE CURE!!! IF YOU ANSWERED YES TO ANY OF THESE YOU QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE WHAT WE LIKE TO CALL INEEDACELLWALLIOUSUS!

  26. What is this wall of MAGICALNESS??? My friend you just need a cell wall! The cell wall will provide a strong support around your cell membrane keeping you safe and in shape! Wouldn’t it be nice not having to worry about exploding from too much H2O absorbed into your system? The cell wall will keep you in place and make sure you don’t go over the legal limit, at least as far as explosions go.

  27. WOW...wait just how do i use this? Well first you have to magically become a plant, or bacterial cell! You then tend to cover your cell membrane with the recently received cell wall, consisting of the primary cell wall, for all your protection needs, and a secondary cell wall (EXCLUSIVLY FOR PLANTS) for their increased wall rigidity needs!

  29. Vacuoles Veronica Gomez Dillon McDermott Noelle Torrillo Period 5

  30. A vacuole is a membrane organelle which is present in all plant and fungal cells and some protist, animal and bacterial cells. It is surrounded by a membrane called the tonoplast • Vacuoles are enclosed areas that are filled with water containing inorganic and organic molecules. Some being various enzymes in the solution. Sometimes they may only contain solids, which have been engulfed. • They are formed by the fusion of multiple membrane vesicles. • The vacuole has no basic shape or size. It’s structure varies according to the needs of the cell.

  31. The function and importance of vacuoles varies according to the type of cell in which they are present. There are more vacuoles in the cells of plants, fungi and certain protists. • Most mature plant cells have one or several vacuoles that usually take up more than 30% of the cell's volume. They can occupy as much as 90% of the volume depending on the type of cell and condition. • Vacuoles play a major role in autophagy, which is a catabolic process involving the degradation of a cell's own components through the lysosomalmachinery. • In protists, vacoules store food, which has already been absorbed by the organism. It also helps in the digestive and waste management process for the cell.

  32. The main functions of the vacuole are… - To isolate materials that might be harmful or a threat to the cell • They contain waste products • They maintain internal hydrostatic pressure or turgur within the cell - They maintain an acidic internal PH - They contain small molecules • Export unwanted substances from the cell • They also help to destroy invading bacteria or misfolded proteins that have begun to build up within a cell.

  35. THE ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM By: Edward A. Gonzalez and Jason Block

  36. FACTS ABOUT THE ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM : • The ER creates a network of membranes found throughout the whole cell. • There are two types of ER, smooth and rough • The smooth ER makes and stores steroids and it also stores proteins • The rough ER

  37. Why should you buy ER? • Not having ER is like not having legs. You wont be able to move and get your food. • It could also be useful if your cell forgets to go to the supermarket. (smooth ER) • Since the ER makes steroids, if you want to get big buy yourself some ER

  38. SMOOTH V.S. ROUGH: ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM • The Smooth ER act as a storage organelle for a cell • The Smooth ER is also where steroids are created and stored • Smooth ER also stores ions in solutions that can be used by cells later • The Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum is very important in the synthesis and packaging of proteins • Some of the proteins are used by the cell and the rest is sent out • the Rough ER is connected to the ribosome, and when the ribosome builds amino chains, they are transferred to the ER and are connected to proteins SMOOTH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM ROUGH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM
