  2. “The student teacher shall be subject to the direction of the staff of the cooperating school…and at all other times while on school premises”.

  3. “A public school teacher is under no obligation to serve as a cooperating teacher.”

  4. “If, for any reason, the student teacher and the cooperating teacher are unable to work together effectively, a change in the student’s assignment may be made….”

  5. “The University reserves the right to withdraw student teachers from a school….”

  6. “University supervisors may visit and observe schools at any time.”

  7. “The student teachers are requested to return to the campus ….to participate…. in seminars.”

  8. Student teachers have “an obligation to remain at school throughout the entire day and after school if needed.”

  9. “Each student teacher has a responsibility to be on time. Tardiness will not be tolerated as part of the teaching assignment.”

  10. “Absences will not be permitted except those arising from the individual’s illness or a death in the immediate family.”

  11. “Chronic absences will be made up as days extended to the student’s teaching experience.”

  12. “If the student teacher becomes ill, ….notify the cooperating teacher and the University supervisor.”

  13. Student teachers follow their school district’s calendar.

  15. “Transporting public school pupils in automobiles driven by or belonging to student teachers is prohibited.”

  19. “The cooperating teacher should support all reasonable efforts of discipline by the student teacher.”

  21. “The student teacher is a teacher and under no circumstances should become a “buddy” to the group.”

  22. “Under no circumstances will the student teacher administer corporal punishment.”

  23. EVALUATION

  25. “The student teacher’s progress should be evaluated daily, weekly, at mid-term and at the close of the student teaching experience.”

  26. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE COOPERATING TEACHER

  27. “Provide a handbook defining school policies whenever possible.”

  28. “Provide the student teacher with responsibilities at the very beginning of student teaching….”

  29. “Clarify the student teacher’s responsibility for discipline and classroom management.”

  30. “Initiate the use of daily lesson plans….”

  31. “Allow student teachers freedom to develop their own teaching style.”

  32. “Remember that student teachers will make mistakes.”

  33. Encourage “student teacher participation in all professional and community activities engaged in by the regular staff….”

  34. “Allow student teachers the opportunity to manage the total classroom situation for at least one week.”

  35. “Don’t assign the details of grading and marking too many papers….The student teacher must have a reasonable amount of leisure time….”

  36. THE UNIVERSITY SUPERVISOR’S ROLE

  37. “Observe the classroom performance of the student teacher a minimum of four times.”

  38. “Conduct a conference with the student teacher at the conclusion of each observation.”

  39. “If needed, give more attention to student teachers experiencing difficulties.”

  40. “Counsel with student teachers concerning problems involved in adjusting to the teaching role….”
