  2. Chromosomes Chromosomes are rod shaped structures made of DNA and proteins Each species has a characterisitc number of chromosomes in each cell.

  3. Human and animal chromosomes are categorized as either sex chromosomes or autosomes. Sex chromosomes are chromosomes that determine the sex of a organism, and they may also carry genes for other characteristics. Cells having two sets of chromosomes are diploid. Diploid cells have two autosomes for each homologous pair

  4. The DNA in eukaryotic cells wraps tightly around proteins called histones. Histones maintain the shape of the chromosome and aid in the tight packing of DNA
