RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL FTBA CONVENTION FRIDAY, AUGUST 14, 2009 As told by The Bonn-J Team
THE ROADWAY “WOES” TALE Once upon a time…
In the Kingdom of Russell Ruled by King George, the Great Roadway Wars were taking place. All the years of fighting for the betterment of paths, roads, river crossings, bridge walls, and bridges were taking a “toll” on him. King George was getting weary of fighting the Dept of Stone and Gravel for the meager coins they would toss his way in order to develop the roadways to travel to other kingdoms. However after many years he was able to procure from the Dept much needed gold. All around the kingdom and the dept they called this turnaround a Stimulus Package. It “stimulated” all to work together joining all kingdoms with great roads. King George fought for many years for this but his time had come. He needed to hand the “reins” to another. He looked far and wide and happened upon the Kingdom of Bonn-J.
In a Kingdom Far, Far Away.. Queen Bonnie ruled. He had heard of her idea to put walls around the banks of the bridges so the hard summer rains would not wash away all their handiwork. He bade her to help, she considered and proclaimed she would build her “rock” walls around all bridges. These walls consisted of adobe bricks, mud and branches. King George thought this great and turned the task of working with the Stone Dept over to her. He then left Queen Bonnie to fight the Dept and returned to the Russell Kingdom.
One of the other things she dreaded was riding in her carriage over the rough, rocky and treacherous roads. It was also terrible for her horse Rosie which she road every day to over see her serfdom. Prince Steve would accompany her when he was at home from fighting the “roadway” wars. Prince Steve was always at battle. All did not believe in the BJ Walls. His job was to instruct workers to build BJ Walls and to deal with the Department of Stone and Gravel with thick lift compactions daily. This was a chore as they oversaw all of the Great Region road surfaces and bridges.
The Work Begins After many years of negotiations, change orders and compliance reviews, progress has been made. Travel from village to village has improved greatly. Journeys used to take weeks including trials such as broken wheels and bandits. However since the department of stone and gravel has thrown down the gauntlet and has invested large amounts of coin into Queen Bonnie’s vision, these journeys now only take days. After this monumental event of road improvement, Queen Bonnie bestowed upon her champion, Lord Burleson, the Blue Ribbon of Honor.
Celebration • To celebrate this fortunate turn of events and to encourage travel on the aforementioned roadways, each year Queen Bonnie hosts a great fair where people bring forth their innovations and compete for the Queen’s favor. This annual festival allows both Royal and Common, blueblood and poor, wagtails and gypsies to mingle and celebrate the efforts of the FTBA Guild. For one night each year all are equals in the great transportation saga. The wine flows freely, pigs are roasted and merriment ensues.
HEAR YE! HEAR YE! Let it be known throughout the land this fabled festival will be held the fourteenth day of August in the year of our lord 2009. Your presence is hereby requested regardless of attire or status. Bring your brood and take part in the bedlam.
