  1. Rabbits!

  2. Hares! A hare is a wild breed of rabbit. They’re not a house pet because they need lot’s of space to run around. Belgian hare!

  3. Hares have bigger bodies than regular rabbits and are faster at running. They can run up to 45 mph because they have powerful hind legs which help them gather speed as they run. A group of hares is known as a drove. Hares usually live by themselves or in pairs.

  4. When you cross breed Hares and Picka’s they are called lagomorphs! lagomorph Picka Hare (very small wild rabbit)

  5. They also have black tips on their ears. Hares have large ears. Hares have wide eyes.

  6. Dutch rabbits! Dutch rabbits are a good natured, social breed that needs a lot of attention.

  7. They have awhite nose, white paws and a white stripe across their shoulders. Their main colour can be grey, brown or black! Dutch rabbits are 1.8 – 2.3 kilograms.

  8. The Dutch rabbit used to be known as the Hollander. The Dutch rabbit came to England in 1864. Their average life span is 5 to 8 years. Their optimal weaning age is 4 to 6 weeks old. Their powerful legs are designed for sudden escapes and movement. They can run up to 25 to 35 mph.

  9. At adulthood they should weigh 4 ½ pounds. Adult Dutch! Their top weight is 5 ½ pounds. Most breeders prefer their Dutch rabbits to be 4 ¾ pounds and under.

  10. Dutch rabbit behaviour Kicking, biting and digging is a sign of aggressive behaviour. They start acting aggressive when you don’t handle them enough or treat them nicely.

  13. Checkered giants! The Checkered Giant is outweighed by the Giant Chinchilla and Flemish Giant.

  14. Feeding a checkered giant! Checkered giant rabbits should be feeding on pellets. High in fat

  15. Checkered giants under 8 months should be fed unlimited plain alfalfa pellets. They should also have lot’s of hay and you should change it regularly.

  16. Checkered Giants were first recognized as a breed in Germany and the first Checkered Giants arrived in the United States around 1910.

  17. Checkered giants have a black stripe down their back, black ears, black ring around their eye and they have some black spots on their hind legs. This breed is one of the largest breeds of a minimum weight of 5kg. It has a hare -like body and has a long arched back, powerful legs and a wide head with large ears.

  18. Lion head Lion head is a new rabbit breed that has its origin in Belgium.

  19. This breed was formed by crossbreeding the Swiss Fox and a Belgian Dwarf. It is not yet well recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association. (ARBA)

  20. The Lion head has it’s name because of the fur around their head. It looks like a lions mane. At adult size, most Lion head rabbits will weigh from 2.5 to 3.5 pounds, or 1.134 to 1.588 kilograms.

  21. Lion heads feed on hay, rabbit mix and vegetables as do any other rabbit, but there can be some vegetables that other rabbits can’t eat. Lion heads need feeding daily. If you skip a day then they can get very ill. If they go hours and hours without food then they will starve and possibly die.

Domestic rabbits cannot breed with wild rabbits. 15.When rabbits are happy, they will jump and twist, this is called a binky.
