Main Characters of the book Shade: He is a computer with human traits. He usually appears as a hologram. He was the savior of many kids that otherwise would be in the Meat Factory being cut into pieces to make cyborg creatures.
Ella: She is the leader of one of the teams that work for Shade. Her team members are Gold Eye, Ninde and Drum. She is very brave. Drum and Ella defeated the Overlords at the cost of their lives.
Gold Eye: Gold Eye is one of the main characters of the book. His name is derived from the color of his eye. It is gold because he was born when the Change started. He has the power of seeing into the future.
Ninde: She is another one of the main characters. She is sort of childish and tries to forget about how bad things were by watching movies that came from the “old days”. She has the power of reading minds.
Drum: He is another one of the main characters. He is extremely big for his age because before he was saved from the Dorms by Shade, he was given steroids so he could be a Myrmidon (a creature made by the Overlord. They are the second most powerful of the bad guys) His talent is telekinesis (moving objects with his mind)
Overlords: They are sort of humans but from a different dimension. They refer to other humans as “animals”. They were the masterminds of the Change. They captured children, put them in “dorms” and when a child turned fourteen, they cut him/her into pieces and use the body parts and the brain for their horrible creatures.
The black heart represents the cruelty of the Overlords (Humans from a different dimension that use children’s muscles and brains to make creatures for battles)
The crossing swords represents the wars and battles Shade’s Children had to survive.
The grave represents the death of the many children Shade sent on missions to help defeat the Overlords.
The stickmen holding hands represents the friendship Shade’s Children needed to survive in the missions.
This represents sacrifice. The sacrifice that Shade’s Children made to help restore peace. The sacrifice that Drum and Ella made when they destroyed the main source of the Overlord’s power, which in turn exploded anddestroyed them.
This represents the sorrow the children felt when one of their friends was taken to the Meat Factory to be cut in to pieces.
The escape key represents when some of the kids at the dorms escaped to avoid death.
Represents how NInde and Gold-Eye fall in love after being friends for a long time.
Represents how the challenges Shade’s Children face gets harder and harder
This guy’s right leg betrayed him. Just like Shade betrayed his children. He sold them to the Overlords just to get a piece of their technology.
Represents Ella’s leadership in the missions they had to do.
Represents how Shade has too sides too him like a coin. He has the protector, savior side and he has the side of sending kids out into danger to find “information”
