  1. BONE FRACTURES • If bone is fractured, soft tissue must absorb stored energy exacerbating damage. • Besides treatment of the fracture itself, medication is often taken to deal with other factors related to the injury.

  2. NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) - short-term • aspirin (Shouldn't be taken when there is a chance of soft tissue injury (periosteum, ligaments, muscle, etc.) or bleeding.) • ibuprofen (ex. Advil) • ketoprofen • naproxen sodium - Chemically and functionally similar to ibuprofen

  3. NSAIDS (continued) all NSAIDS reduce production of prostaglandins by a critical enzyme that produces PGs: cyclooxygenase each drug has a different chemical structure
