Results • Harrison 234 • Van Buren 60 • “Shawnee Curse” • “The doctors, after blistering and “cupping” him, administered violent emetics and cathartics; then switched to opium, camphor, and brandy; finally, in desperation, administered Indian medicine men’s remedies such as crude petroleum and snakeweed.”

  7. But Tyler Too • 1841-1845 • “His Ascendency”- State’s rights!! A democrat or a Whig? • BUS vetoes • Resignations of the Cabinet (abandonment of the Whig party) • Calhoun given the Sec. of State. Foreign Policy issues… • Burning of the steamship Caroline • Aroostook Valley; Maine fighting with lumberjacks • Webster Ashburton Treaty 1842: Redrawing of Maine’s borders with the British.

  8. THE BIG REVIEW • Use your review sheet to write 10 review questions over the years 1791-1841. • Then, come up with 5 wildcard questions. • Try to get it done by the end of the period, otherwise, turn it in at the end of class. • Exam will be Wednesday- tomorrow is the Q&A review.
