2/13 About MICE Ionisation cooling The Muon Ionisation Cooling Experiment (MICE) Key systems
3/13 Ionisation Cooling Cooling: reduction of the beam in 2, 4, or 6 dimensional phase space. Light-to-moderate cooling required for Neutrino Factory. Intense cooling required for Muon Collider. Begin with ionisation cooling. RF Require small at absorber tight focus field Absorber Restores only longitudinal momentum , phase space reduced Reduces all momentum components Minimise Cooling Heating (Mult. Scat)
4/13 The Muon Ionisation Cooling Experiment (MICE) In construction at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK. Full cell of ionisation cooling lattice. Test performance in different operational modes. Require relative precision of use particle physics detectors. RF Measure Cool Absorber Reaccelerates muon, restoring lost energy Spectrometer Solenoid Measure Liquid hydrogen or solid Lithium Hydride. Reduces muon momentum vector 4T Solenoid field containing scintillating fibre tracker. Measures muon components:
