Department of Teacher EducationAdmission Steps for Undergraduate Students • Declare your major through MyCharleston account (Program of Study management system). • Respond to automated email directing you to schedule a meeting with the Coordinator for Student Services. • Arrive for meeting prepared and ready to learn more about the program. • Meet with assigned academic advisor(s).
Department of Teacher EducationAdmission Steps for Undergraduate Students Pass all three PRAXIS I tests • Can be taken through the traditional paper/pencil method or by a computerized method • Testing dates, locations, and registration information may be found on the Educational Testing Service’s website (www.ets.org). • Computerized testing offered locally through Prometric Testing Service (843.766.5599 or 800.853.6773). • Passing test scores: reading = 175; writing = 173; and math = 172 • Official scores MUST be sent to the College of Charleston (code R5113) and the SC Department of Education (code R8108). • Have qualifying SAT/ACT Scores • SAT score of 1650 or higher • ACT score of 24 or higher OR Make sure all scores are sent to the College of Charleston.
Department of Teacher EducationAdmission Steps for Undergraduate Students • Establish and maintain required GPAs • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher • Education GPA of 3.0 or higher • Secondary Education must maintain the required GPA in the content area of study • Complete program specified minimum number of general education requirements See the Program of Study Worksheet for specific course requirements for your intended major. (http://ehhp.cofc.edu/student-resources/pos.php) • Complete EDFS 201 (Foundations of Education) with a grade of “C” or above Students who wish to transfer in 201 course credit must meet with Dr. Meta Van Sickle, Chair of the Department of Teacher Education (vansicklem@cofc.edu; 843.953.6357).
Department of Teacher EducationAdmission Steps for Undergraduate Students Submit Disposition Assessment Forms One completed by each of the following: • A General Education instructor • Someone who is knowledgeable about your work with children or youth • Your EDFS 201 instructor Disposition Assessment Forms may be accessed electronically at : http://ehhp.cofc.edu/novice. You will be responsible for sending this link to the persons completing the form for you.
