What do the usage stats show us? • For comparison we have chosen Oxford Scholarship Online (OSO)– very similar to Springer E-books – nice interface, chapters can be downloaded in Pdfs, covered by web scale discovery services. In OSO abstracts are available at both book and chapter level. • We subscribe (!) to six modules in OSO – Business and Management, Economics and finance, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion.

  8. What do the usage stats show us? In the 6 modules - over 5400 titles The percentage of the titles used: 12.68 % • Business and Management module - 11% • Economics and Finance – 11% • History – 10% • Philosophy – 16% • Political Science – 26% • Religion module – 7%

  9. What do the usage stats show us? • Question – Is it really worth purchasing/subscribing to predefined collections? • Answer : yes. • Why? Cost/use of OSO - 2.7 EUR - which is quite ok. Well known issue justified by numbers: only a small portion of titles used in predefined collections but these items are used many times.

  10. Pre-defined e-book collections are ok • Springer E-books - The usage statistics for the trial in 2013 show that at CEU only the 10 % of the titles were used. It is very similar to the usage of OSO. • But the number of successful section request was 2084 in 3 months – and we did not make a huge advertising campaign for the Springer E-books trial – we posted it on our website in the News sections. • Huge advantage of the Springer E-books deal – it is not a subscription but a one-off fee and we own the content forever.
