  1. Matter and Energy When heat is added to a material it causes the atoms to move at a quicker rate.

  2. At the same time when heat is removed then the atoms move slower. • Snow to water to steam. Does temperature change cause any problems?—Not in a phase change—but---what about our roads? • How could this temperature change be a possible problem when a bridge meets a road? • Hint-think of the little metal connections you see—what are these for? • They expand and contract with the weather so the bridge and road still are good to drive on. • Otherwise, the road or bridge may break more easily it the metals and road base did not have a way to fit together when the temperatures change so much.

  3. Let’s think about density concerning a river. How would the loose sediments be arranged along a river bank?

  4. How about on a fast stream?

  5. Why are the larger rocks further up the bank? • Because the are more dense and were dropped off when the water could no longer carry them.

  6. Would the more dense materials act in a similar manner with all Earth parts? • YES!!!!!

  7. Remainder of time in class. • Working silently on your review paperwork. • Lab is tomorrow so be ready for a fun physical and chemical change lab. It can be messy so be careful. • Remember your core test can earn you bonus class points if you do well so-------study each night 15-20 minutes and it will help.

  8. Now------ • Here is your test-year long review sheet. • Make no marks on the sheet and follow all instructions. • READ your material in your book and then answer your questions. All paperwork will come to Mrs. Richeson for a point assignment. You will also be given a quiz or two along the way.
