  9. DL/I Family Input Questions • Recommended things to do with the students over the summer (Hancock) • Support in reading, math, and other content areas in English can go a long way in the Spanish classroom. Reach out to the individual teachers if you have specific questions regarding your child. I highly recommend children read daily to encourage growth over the summer vs digression which typically happens during summer months. RAZ is a great resource for both Spanish and English reading at every grade level of the program. I highly encourage your child participates in the Summer Reading Celebration sent out by Ms. Sebek to all parents as well as sent by the teachers. • How can we welcome the new DLI teachers? A pre-school event? (Spicer/Hancock) • Stay tuned in August we will see what we can get organized here on the school front :)

  10. DL/I Family Input Questions (cont…) • What can we (parents) collect for the new classrooms for next year? Are gift cards easiest? (Spicer) • The school is on top of the needs/funding of the program including incoming and current classes. We recommend you wait until the new school year begins for the individual teachers to let you know their wish list based off their specific wants for the classroom. • What housing items could the new teachers use when first arriving in the country? (Hancock) • Please keep in mind that when first arriving to a new country there are many housing needs that could occur, such as kitchenry items, furniture, etc. If you have any items you no longer want and would like to donate, please reach out to Mrs. Hancock to coordinate how to get these items to the new teachers when they arrive in August.

  17. WEDDINGTON ELEMENTARY DUAL LANGUAGE/IMMERSION SCHOOL COORDINATOR Administration has watched this program blossom over the years. We want to continue to nourish and watch it grow even further. We have decided to implement an individual in this role to work closely with administration to help give the best support possible to the program. The coordinator will help facilitate DL/I teacher meetings, professional development opportunities for our DL/I teachers, research best practices and best resources to implement at WDES. We are excited to announce Mrs. Charlotte Hancock as our DL/I School Coordinator!

  18. Parking Lot What questions do you still have? What else do you feel needs to be addressed? What systems are in place to support new DL/I teachers? The DL/I school team is an amazing support system to the new teachers. We also could not do our job effectively without the support of the non DL/I teachers. Administration and DL/I school coordinator will take an active role in support as well. At the county level there is also a wealth of support with Ms. Podgorny, Mrs. Garner, and Dr. Bulla. How can we ensure our money donated to the PTO benefits the DL/I program? We encourage you to take an active role in PTO and attend meetings. Administration and DL/I School Coordinator will work closely as well with PTO. How is the relationship between Participate and the school? Participate provides training to DL/I staff as well as has a consultant that is here if there is a need. In addition, by supplying Case21 to the program, teachers are able to guide their instruction most effectively. How can our student access more levels on RAZ? Contact your teacher to ask to open to higher levels.
