  1. Vascular Plants

  2. General Information Vascular plants are divided into two systems Root system- made of underground structures shoot system- aboveground structures Roots, stems, and leaves are the man organs in vascular plants Water and materials are transported between the roots and the shoots through vascular tissue

  3. Leaves Most leaves grow above ground They make food through photosynthesis

  4. Stem Stems usually grow above ground Provides support

  5. Roots Roots grow underground They supply plants with water and minerals

  6. Nonvascular

  7. General Information If nonvascular plants were large, the cells of the plants that are far from the ground would not get enough nutrients Nonvascular plants do not have vascular systems to transport water and nutrients throughout their body Water must move from the environment and throughout the plant by a process called diffusion Nonvascular plants are all fairly small

  8. This liverwort is a type of nonvascular plant

  9. The difference Vascular Nonvascular

  10. Game Time!! (VASCULAR) Q: what are the 2 systems in vascular plants? A: Root and shoot 2) Q: what are the 3 major parts of a vascular plant? A: roots, stems, and leaves 3) Q: in vascular plants, what do the leaves do? A: make food through photosynthesis 4) Q: what do the stems do? A: provide support 5) Q: what do the roots do? A: supply plants with water and minerals from the ground

  11. Game Time!! (Nonvascular) Q: give 3 examples of nonvascular plants A: mosses, liverworts, and hornworts 2) Q: TRUE OR FALSE- diffusion is the process of moving water through tube-like tissues A: FALSE 4) Q: TRUE OR FALSE- liverwort is a nonvascular plant? A: TRUE 3) Q: nonvascular plants are large or small? A: small 5) Q: If nonvascular plants were large the cells would not get enough what? A: nutrients
