Branches There are 3 branches of government Legislative Executive Judicial
Legislative • Congress heads the Legislative branch • The Senate • 2 for each state • 6 year terms • The House of Representatives • 435: based on population • Elected by the people

Executive • The President is the head of the Executive branch • The Vice President becomes president if he/she dies • The cabinet is a special group that advises the President

Judicial • The Supreme Court is the head of the Judicial Branch • 12 judges are selected by the President (POTUS)

Checks and Balances • Limits the powers of each branch • Powers overlap
