Starting the 17th of October 2008, all mobile and fixed line numbers in Kuwait will change to 8 digits Introduction 17th of October Numbering plan change • All mobile and fixed line numbers will change from 7 digits to 8 digits on the 17th of October 2008. • In the past few years, the State of Kuwait has faced dynamic economic and demographic conditions which have led to an unprecedented growth in the use of telecommunications services. • In addition, several new telecommunications actors have been introduced on the market • To support its growth, anticipates the future, the Ministry of Communications of Kuwait unveiled the 8 digits numbering plan. • This plan will ensure: • the sufficient and equitable distribution of numbers to both current and future operators, • the number stability, the new numbering plan provides flexibility to prevent future changes, • the reservation of a block of numbers for introduction of new telecommunications services. Get ready for the new 8 digits phone numbers ! In more details, the new numbering plan simplifies the old scheme New numbering plan detailed description New numbering plan Notice: Unchanged numbers: • The international numbers outside Kuwait do not change and need the prefix 00 followed by the country code (e.g. for UK dial 00 44 1234567890) • The country code for Kuwait 965 stays the same. • The 3 digits numbers do not change, from 100 to 179 (e.g. for the Inquiry Directory, dial 101) • The emergency number in Kuwait 777 does not change.
