Overview • “To prepare members for the realities and challenges of the corporate world and to provide members with an opportunity to develop leadership and managerial skills through philanthropic and organizational activities” • Accomplish our mission via: • Team Building Activities • Professional Development Events • Philanthropic Events • Social Events

  4. General Meetings • Every other Monday at 6pm • 1 hour long • Recap of past events • Upcoming events • Team Building Activity • Committee Meetings • Corporate Relations • Community Service • Social • THON

  5. Team Building Activities

  6. Active Membership • Assign point values to the various events one can attend • Ranges from 5 points for typical events, to 15 points for time-consuming events • Must have at least 50 points at end of semester • Must attend one event for each committee • Must Pay Dues • $20 due 10/28 • If you turn them in by 9/30, you will get 5 points!

  7. Points Competition! • End of semester awards for those with most points • Platinum, Gold, Silver members • Competition with the Executive Board • Beat an exec, and there will be consequences for them!

Project Management Program • Give members a chance to take the lead on projects with organizations • Organizations and businesses downtown • Other student organizations • There will be an application and interview process to determine Project Managers for specific projects • Project Management Speaker Series

Project Management – GE Week • First project – Global Entrepreneurship Week • Linda Feltman of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) runs event • November 18th-24th • Wants help with organization, marketing, new events, etc. • Look for applications in future listserv emails • Linda will hopefully be our first Speaker in late September!

  11. Mentoring Program • Meet with an exec board member or senior member of PMA throughout the semester to discuss being successful at Penn State and in your career • Open to anyone who would like to join • Tell an Exec Board member if you are interested at end of the meeting

  23. Service Committee Responsibilities • Have Fun! • But actually: • Get involved with the community • Look for possible fundraising opportunities with outside organizations • Co-planning and brainstorming events

Corporate Relations Chair: Danielle Schrey • Responsibilities • Build and Maintain Relationships with Companies • Plan Corporate Events • Run Corporate Relations Committee **Looking for members who want immediate leadership opportunities…please see me after meeting** • Events • Resume Review Workshop – 9/11, 6 pm (5 points) • Speaker Dr. Donald Hambrick – 9/25, 6 pm (5 points) • PMA Networking Expo 9/17, 6pm (10 points)

Corporate Relations Committee Responsibilities • Facilitate networking between recruiters and other PMA members • Lead when participating in case competitions • And find prospective team members in PMA • Research companies and contacts throughout the semester • Brainstorm ideas for further corporate relations events

  27. PMA Networking Expo • Tuesday September 17, 2013 • 6:00-8:00pm Business Building Atrium • Great opportunity for networking with recruiters in a Business Casual setting. • 27 GREAT companies attending this year • **Need member involvement to help with set up and clean up**

Social Chair: Angela Ru • Background: • Pittsburgh, PA • Sophomore: Management Major/Economics and Psychology Minor • Interned at Johnson &Johnson • PMA member since 2012; Social Chair Spring 2012 • Goals of the committee: • Give members the chance to network with each other • Inclusion of new members • Plan a variety of social events that are fun and keep everyone involved • Fundraising Events

THON Chair: Adanela Avdic • Background • Bosnia (Europe) • Live in Carlisle, PA w/ mom and brother • Hobbies – volleyball, running, hanging out with friends • Sophomore, joined PMA last semester • Responsibilities • Keep a strong relationship w/ Miller family • Plan visits, invite them to PMA events, communication over phone, FB • Organize canning trips and alternative fundraisers through out the year • Attend THON workshops

What is THN?? • Largest student-run philanthropy in the world • 46 hour dance marathon, year-long effort • Raised more than $101 million benefiting the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital since 1977 • Last year, raised record breaking $12.37 million • Takes place in February

  34. THON Family • Dakota Miller • Parents Dave and Carol • 10 years old • Diagnosed with Leukemia in 2007 (at age 4) • Loves Dinosaurs • Very outgoing and energetic • 3rd year anniversary off treatment was August 23rd!!
