  1. Fever Treatments in Adults Fever is a very common condition that is usually not harmful. It is an essential part of your body’s immune response to infections. In adults, fever is quite easily manageable. Most individuals get rid of fevers at home and do not require medical attention. You may, however, use certain treatment strategies as given below. Treating fever at home Fever is a vital component of your body’s defense against infections. Alone, fever is usually harmless and does not require any special treatment. However, in cases when your body’s temperature is moderately high, it may become miserable. Consider the following to feel a little better and treat the condition.  Since fever comes with dehydration, it is important to drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated.  If you have other symptoms like an upset stomach or vomiting, eat light foods that can be digested easily.  Even if you have chills, do not cover your body with too many clothes. Stay in your normal light clothes.  Take a warm-water bath or apply a slightly wet handkerchief on your forehead.  Take an over-the-counter medicine like acetaminophen (paracetamol), ibuprofen, aspirin, or naproxen to lower the temperature and relieve other symptoms (body ache or headache). Note: Do not give aspirin to individuals aged below 18 years unless recommended by your doctor.

  2. When to see a doctor Call your doctor right away if you have a temperature greater than or equal to 104°F (40°C). Plus, if you are facing the following (or other) severe symptoms along with fever, make sure to see your doctor.  Seizures  Loss of consciousness  Confusion  Stiff neck  Difficulty in breathing  Severe pain in the head  Severe body pain  Swelling in any part of the body  Vaginal discharge  Pain or burning during urination  Foul-smelling urine  Coughing up blood  Severe pain in the stomach  Rashes or blisters anywhere on the body Do not ignore such symptoms if they last longer. This is because fever in HIV, hepatitis, and other infections is considered the first sign of the disease. Therefore, it is important to not take it lightly in severe cases. Diagnosing the cause of fever To initiate the treatment process, your doctor will find the cause of the fever. As you tell the following things, you will be prescribed a suitable plan.  Your range of fever.  Other symptoms you may be experiencing.  The severity of other symptoms.  Recent vaccinations you may have received.  Any new drugs you may be taking.  Recent injuries or surgeries you may have gone through. If you are unsure to handle the condition even in mild cases, consult your medical professional. Source: http://writeus.me/fever-treatments-in-adults/
