  1. IEEE Region 10 REPC Prof. R.M.(Bob) Hodgson •  As of January 2006, the recognized educational • program lists are no longer maintained. • It is proposed that in Region 10 we emphasis and promote accredited programs but taking care to respect national sensitivities!

IEEE EAB Committee on Global Accreditation Activities (CGAA) Accreditation is viewed as a means of : • improving the quality of engineering and computer science education • identifying academic programs that meet quality standards • establishing credentials for international practice Let us agree to add: • assisting students to identify suitable programs of study

IEEE EAB Committee on Global Accreditation Activities (CGAA) - continued “It is the goal of the IEEE  EAB CGAA to  Not only conduct  informational workshops, but to inspire and enable local IEEE members from all over the world to construct or improve their current accreditation systems.   The ultimate goal is to encourage and inspire them  to proceed independently  to manage and govern their own systems, to use their own resources and to meet their own cultural requirements.”

  4. IEEE site http://www.tryengineering.org/university.php allows a search for accredited engineering programs worldwide. It currently lists programs for (only) the following countries: United States Korea *(14) India *(283) Malaysia *(25) Canada Mexico Australia *(38) New Zealand *(10) Brazil Pakistan *(29) France South Africa Germany United Kingdom Japan *(125) R10 Total *524 *Accredited programs for listed R10 countries

On the IEEE site, http://www.tryengineering.org/university.php, the nature of the accreditation is not recorded; some of the listed countries, for example do not have Washington Accord Membership allowing for mutual recognition of professional engineering degrees.   6. Goals for 2007- #1 • Work with the R10 webmaster and a professional web design company to develop student advisory material and links and add downloadable materials to encourage students to seek to study on accredited programs. •  Promote this material to chapters and branches for • use as appropriate.

  7. Goals for 2007 - #2 • Work within the IEEE to extend the list of countries in R10 for which accredited program listings are provided.  An example of the need for this extension •  Hong Kong is not listed on the IEEE website •  Hong Kong has been a full member of the • Washington Accord since 1995. • The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers currently accredits a total of 75 programs in five institutions!

Goals for 2007- #3 • Work to verify and where appropriate add to the list of accredited programs • Seek to become knowledgeable on the various national accreditation programs • Act as a source of advice and contacts on accreditation issues in R10 and liaison with IEEE – EAB (Educational Activities Board).

  9. REPC Budget for 2007 Development of new web materials under contract - $5,000 Liaison travel - $3,500 Printing and distribution of samples of downloadable material as a prompt-to-action by branches and chapters- $1,500 Total $10,000
