1993 National & Community Service Trust Act – President Bill Clinton • Corporation for National & Community Service established • AmeriCorps established • 20,000 Members; $4,725 education award • 2003 Strengthen AmeriCorps Program Act – President George W. Bush • Doubled the number of AmeriCorps members • 2009 Ted Kennedy Serve America Act – President Barack Obama • Increase to 250,000 AmeriCorps members • Education Award increased and tied to Pell Grant
