  4. Review OSSD Requirements • 30CREDITS(18 compulsory+12 optionals) • Successful completion of Literacy Test • 40 HOURS of Community Service

  5. French Immersion Requirements • 10 Credits to earn French Immersion Certificate: • Grade 9 – FIF 1D0, CGC 1D*, GLS 1O* • Grade 10 – FIF 2D0, CHV 2O*, GLC 2O*, CHC 2D* • Grade 11 – FIF 3U0, BDI 3C*, CGG 3O* • Grade 12 – FIF 4U0

College • Certificate (specialized area/skills) • Diploma (specialized + broader range of knoweldge) • Applied degree (theoretical, advanced, application of skills in the workplace) 2. Apprenticeship • Earn while you learn 3. University • Degree (Bachelor - 3 yrs; Honours bachelors - 4 yrs) 4. Workplace

College Requirements • OSSD • Students need a majority of grade 11/12 courses offered at the college (C), University/College (M), and University (U) type • Math and English marks of 65% or higher are preferred by the colleges • Check program requirements for mandatory high school courses • Start research early (www.ontariocolleges.ca)

  8. Destination: Apprentice • Entry into an apprenticeship requires the completion of Grade 8, Grade 10, or Grade 12, depending on the trade • Most employers in any trade require individuals be secondary school graduates as a condition of employment

  9. What is an Apprentice? • someone who learns a skilled trade on the job, under the direction of experienced workers • are employees who earn a wage while learning a skilled trade • someone who completes classroom instruction as a part of their training

  10. Why would I want to choose an Apprenticeship Program? • Skilled workers are in high demand in many industries • learning new skills and building a rewarding career • Jobs in the skilled trades pay well, and are interesting and challenging • You canearnwhile youlearn

  12. 1: Through and employer • Find an employer who is willing to • hire and train you • Apply directly to an employer, union or local • committee • 2: OYAP • As a high school student, OYAP can help you • start training • complete an application form • Uses Secondary School Co-op as the pathway to • apprenticeships • Requirements: 16 years old, 16 credits, • aptitude &desire 3 Paths to Apprenticeship

Financing your Education • Start saving!! • Yearly Tuition: Bachelor Degree Programs- $6,000 College Diploma Programs - $2,500, Certificate Programs - $1,250, Applied Bachelor Degrees - $6,500 • Apply for various scholarship • Post secondary entrance scholarships • Tuition grants • Check out the DSSS + College and University web-sites for a list of scholarships offered • Your parents workplace may offer scholarships
