Essential Questions I. What’s up with English 11? II. What’s the vocabulary for the week? III. What’s the first Assignment? IV. Who will do my Job? V. How will I be graded?
I. What’s up with English 11? A. Binder 1. 1 ½” divided in 5 sections 2. Bring it every day 3. Have out and ready by the time bells sounds
B. Syllabus 1. Read over 2. Take “Syllabus Scavenger Hunt” 3. Sign syllabus and take home for parents to sign 4. Return TOMORROW for homework credit.
C. Film Permission Form Get it signed or you will not be able to watch our wonderful movies!!
D. Color Code 1. Pay attention to color code a. yellow – vocab b . white – classwork c. green – class set d. blue – reference e. White/loose leaf - writing
E. Writing Assignments Each week you will have a writing assignment: A. Compositions – minimum 1 page, 3 paragraphs – may be handwritten - or - B. Essays – minimum 500 words, rough draft, MUST be typed!! Assigned on Monday, due on Friday.

III. Weekly ECR #1 Prompt: Why attend high school? Due: Friday, 8/31 We’ll be working on this in class but it’s okay to start on your own – if we do not complete the assignment in class it will be HOMEWORK.
IV. Class Assignment Imagine that your life is a job – and you are hiring! Write a “want ad” that specifies the kind of person you would hire – what skills, experience, abilities, and attitude would the “employee” need? (See handout)
