  2. Purpose • Booster sessions are used to reinforce the skills learned in the stepfamily class and is one way to provide ongoing support (a grant requirement) to the couples/families who attend the class.

  3. Guidelines • Every course series needs a booster session 4-6 weeks after completion of lesson 6 • Agencies are responsible for facilitating and paying for the booster session with grant funds. • Please keep attendance using the master attendance sheet used for the 6 classes.

  4. Guidelines (continued) • We provide an outline of the “Straw Activity” • Another option is the USU Ropes course • Each agency will need to plan and advertise the booster session well in advance. • Helpful to give a flyer at the end of lesson 6 • Contact families a week before the session to remind them. • This activity is for the entire family.

  5. Straw Tower Family Activity • Review booster activity handout • Provide supplies for each family to build a straw tower • The objective (and corresponding evaluation) of the activity is to build • family closeness • communication • problem solving

  6. Ropes Course • You are still in charge • Plan ahead • Contact: Patrick Bentley (435) 797-0089 Patrick.bentley@usu.edu • He will have activity options and will get more information to better serve you.

  7. Guidelines for Success! • Make it fun! • Meet the objectives (read over the participant’s booster evaluation beforehand) • You can be flexible • Provide a nice a meal (remember that all expenditures for this year must be made before Sept 29th)

  8. Final Note • Each adult participant will need to fill out an evaluation • If you have an additional activity that you would rather use and it meets the booster session objectives—you can contact your project manager for approval • Any Questions??
