  11. Sensory Details • As writers we can create vivid pictures by using words that appeal to our readers’ senses. Words that engage the senses of hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell will help readers to experience what you are describing.

  17. Why Bother? • Those who can communicate effectively in speaking and writing have a skill that employers value. Using sensory details is one quality required for the articulate employee. A survey of business managers in 2008 ranked “ability to effectively communicate” as in the top 5 most valuable skills an employee needs to succeed.
