  2. The Articles of Confederation • What is a confederacy? • What are the Articles of Confederation?

  3. Continental Congress creates the AOC in 1777 during the American Revolution. • Power divided between national government and state government. • Majority of power given to states. • Created one body, the congress, to serve as the national government.

  4. Activity • What were the AOC’s strengths? • What were the weaknesses in the AOC? • Looking at the Articles of Confederation (Lesson 7) complete the graphic organizer. • Identify the achievements and the problems of this document.

  5. HW • Read Lesson 8 • Answer questions 1-4.

  6. Shay’s Rebellion • How did Shay’s Rebellion force people to re-examine the weakness of national government? -Who was Daniel Shays? -What did he do? Why? -What were the consequences?

  7. A call for Congress… • Shay’s rebellion called for a meeting in Philadelphia in 1787 known as the Philadelphia Convention. • Who attended this Convention? • 55 Delegates from each state except Rhode Island attended. • These delegates were known as the Framers of the Constitution.
