ESEA as Reauthorized by theNo Child Left Behind ActPrivate School Participation ESEA as reauthorized by NCLB of 2001, provides benefits to private school students, teachers and other education personnel, including those in religiously affiliated schools. Office of Staff Development
Title IIPreparing, Training, and Recruiting High Quality Teachers and Principals • Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund Office of Staff Development
Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund • Provides professional development for private school teachers and other educational personnel. • Allowable professional development activities must be secular, neutral, and non-ideological. Office of Staff Development
Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund • As with any activity that the LEA carries out for public school teachers, activities supported with Improving Teacher Quality State Grants funds that benefit private school teachers must meet the requirements of the Title II statute. Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund • Professional development activities to be carried out for private school personnel must be based on a review of scientifically based research and must be expected to improve student academic achievement. Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund Professional Development Activities may include Training in : • Improving teachers’ knowledge in the core academic subjects and effective instructional teaching strategies • Technology integration training Office of Staff Development
Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund Professional Development Activities may include Training in : • Teaching students with different learning styles including students with disabilities or limited English Proficiency, and gifted/talented students • Methods of improving student behavior, identifying early and appropriate interventions • Using assessments to improve instruction and student outcomes • Involving parents more effectively Office of Staff Development
Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund Professional Development Activities may include Training in : • Education leadership development and management to improve the quality of teacher leaders and principals. Office of Staff Development
Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund Professional Development Activities may include: • Conferences (registrations, travel expenses) • Professional Development Materials and Supplies (may only be used by educators, NOT students) – any non-computer item under $500. Includes books, software, etc. Office of Staff Development
