GBK Geometry Jordan Johnson
Today’s plan • Greeting • Review Asg #26 • Lesson: Proof • Lab • Clean-up
A Recipe for Proof • State the givens. • State what to prove. • Sketch a diagram. • Make a “rough draft”: • On scratch paper, state easy-to-prove facts. • Mark equal parts on your diagram.(A different color helps, here!) • Find what would immediately prove the result. • Pick the facts you need for the proof. • Write the proof (or as much as you can).
Rules of thumb • Proving angle/segment equations?Try using congruence.Corresponding parts of congruent triangles are equal. • Proving congruence? Use ASA or SAS. • Remember old ways, too: • See triangles & angles? Triangle Angle-Sum Thm. • See a right triangle? Pythagorean Thm.
Proof • 1 and 2 are verticalangles. (Given.) • G is the midpoint of HF.(Given.) • H = F. (Given.) • HG = GF. (By definition of midpoint.) • 1 = 2. (Vertical angles are equal.) • GHI GFE (by ASA).
Assignments • For Tuesday: Asg #27 • Now, to the lab! • Bring your journal • Work on: • Go to Schoology; join this course: HGQFN-5QJ2S • Khan Academy – 10+ min, logged in • Problems on Geometric Figures • The circle center puzzle (either version) • Constructions (from the Log)
Clean-up / Reminders • Pick up all trash / items. • Push in chairs (at front and back tables). • See you tomorrow!
