Welcome by Dr. Giovanna Maino, Italy – Chairwoman Dr. Giovanna Maino - Italy 2003 - Received her degree in “Odontoiatria e ProtesiDentaria” at the “FacoltàdiMedicina e ChirurgiadiPadova ” (Italy) 2006 - She received her degree in “Specialty in Orthodontics” at the University of Ferrara (Italy) She is author of various articles on the use of skeletal anchorage in orthodontics and has contributed to the fifth Italian edition of the textbook “ Management of Temporomandibular Disorders and Occlusion” J.P.Okeson editor. She has been lecturing at various meeting: SIDO (Societa’ Italiana Di Ortodonzia), Si.Te.Bi (Societa’ ItalianadiTecnicaBidimensionale), AIdOR (AccademiaItalianadiOrtodonzia) and WIOC and she providing courses on Orthodontic Treatment with Bidimensional Technique and Modern Practice Management.Dr. Maino is a member of the the World Federation of Orthodontists, AccademiaItalianadiOrtodonzia, Si.Te.Bi and SIDO. She maintains her own orthodontics private practice in Vicenza and Bassano del Grappa, Italy.

He is also a member of the editorial board of 3 international orthodontic journals. 2003 - Received the Beni Solow Award for the best article published in the European Journal of Orthodontics Dr. Weiland has a private practice in Deutschlandsberg(Austria) and is a part-time associate professor at the Department of Orthodontics of the Vienna Dental School Conference subject: This lecture aims at proving evidence-based answers to 10 clinical questions: • Does arch expansion with self-ligating brackets grow bone? • Is expansion with self-ligating brackets stable long term? • Aesthetics – do buccal corridors really matter? • Does orthodontic treatment improve a patient's periodontal condition or worsen it? • Does extraction treatment have a negative bearing on aesthetics? • Is non-extraction treatment really non-extraction? • Does the difference in friction between types of brackets really matter clinically? • Are the treatment results with self-ligating brackets better than with conventional brackets? • Does the use of self-ligating brackets make treatment more efficient? • Can we "grow mandibles" in the treatment of Class II malocclusions?

Long-Term Outcome of CLP Treatment as a Result of Interdisciplinary Cooperation and Careful Planning Prof. Dr. Anne Marie Kuijpers-Jagtman - The Netherlands 1995-now - Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Orthodontics and Craniofacial Biology at the Radboud University Nijmegen (The Netherlands) She is a past President of the European Orthodontic Society, a former President of the Dutch Society for the Study of Orthodontics and also of the Dutch Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association. At present, she is Councillor of the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO). In 2002, she was honoured with a Fellowship in Dental Surgery by Election to the Royal College of Surgeons of England and in 2004, she received the CesareLuzi Memorial Award of SIDO in Italy. She was awarded Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau (Royal Honour of Her Majesty the Queen) for her services to cleft lip and palate treatment in 2007. In 2009 and 2011, her group received the Samuel Berkowitz Award from the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association for the best publication on long-term results of cleft lip and palate treatment. She has undertaken extensive research during the past 25 years in the areas of cleft lip and palate and the biological background of orthodontics. In recent years, her major interests have been in 3D-imaging in orthodontics and evidence-based orthodontic therapy. She has given numerous lectures in 35 countries around the globe. Congress Conferences: Long-Term Outcome of CLP Treatment as a Result of Interdisciplinary Cooperation and Careful Planning The principal role of the interdisciplinary cleft lip and palate team (CLP team) is to provide integrated care for children with clefts and to assure quality and continuity of patient care and longitudinal follow-up. The decisive factors for the final treatment results are: a high caseload per surgeon, a clear and ‘simple’ treatment plan, and a well-organized setting for CLP-care. From Single 3D Images to Fusion Models of the Head Nowadays, the lateral and frontal cephalogram and the OPT can be replaced by one cone beam CT scan, which enables a 3D-analysis of the facial structures. 3D-facial still pictures can be made and just recently 3D-video started to develop, which brings in the 4th dimension. Digital dental casts will replace plaster casts for clinical use and intra-oral digital impression taking is a new exciting development. A synergy betweenthese methods is created when they are fused together to display all three facial structures at once in a virtual head. For that reason, improvement of single 3D imaging techniques and fusion processes has been the number one priority within the 3D lab in Nijmegen.

TGO: A Modern Approach of the Bi-Dimensional Technique Dr. Michel Le Gall - France Dr. Michel Le Gall is the Head of the Dentofacial Orthopedics Department at the University Hospital La Timone in Marseille (France). 2005 - Conducted a study, “Etude in vitro des forces de frottement Durant la mécanique de glissementorthodontique au travers de brackets conventionnels et auto-ligaturants” Dr. Le Gall’s Thesis on « Traitmentorthodontique et chirurgical des béancesantérieures » received the highest level of distinction. Dr. Le Gall’s extensive post-graduate work at the University of Marseille included General Pharmacology and General Embryology (1984), Clinical Orthodontics (1986), Pathological Anatomy (1990) and Surgical Methodology (1991). Conference subject: It is during strategic phases of orthodontic treatment that the need for third order control of the upper incisor makes complete sense. The evolution of our techniques allows us to reach such results through a proper mechanical thinking and through the use of specific bracket/wire-assembly appliances. Improved sliding mechanics and lower friction guarantee the generation of the proper forces for dental movement, while taking physiology into consideration. Skeletal Anchorage in Adult Orthodontic Treatment Dr. Johannes Grossen – Switzerland Postgraduate orthodontic training in Bern (Prof. BengtIngervall) and earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Bern. 1994-now - Private practice in Langenthal (Switzerland) and is a part-time instructor at the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Bern. Lectured on self-ligating brackets and the use of palatal implants in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Greece and Australia Conference subject: Anchorage in adult orthodontic treatment is one of the main problems to be solved during treatment planning.  The introduction of skeletal anchorage with the use of bone anchors, miniscrews and temporary implants has opened new possibilities for adult patient treatment. This lecture presents different types of skeletal anchorage in a large number of clinical cases. Advantages and disadvantages of each anchorage type as well as the limits of application in borderline cases will be discussed.

The Twin Block: An Overview of 15 Years of Successful Treatment of Class II Patients Dr. Guido Sampermans – Belgium 1986-now- Private orthodontic practices in Belgium, Germany (1997) and The Netherlands (2003). Dr. Sampermans is an affiliate member of the Angle Society in Southern California (USA). 2001-now - Teaches orthodontic treatment philosophy (1-3 day courses) in Europe and offers micro-courses at his practice in Echt (The Netherlands) about self-ligating brackets, indirect bonding and modern practice management. Because of his valuable knowledge and extensive experiences with pre-adjusted appliance systems (Andrews, Roth, MBT, Active SLB), he has delivered invited lectures all over the world. He has been a guest-lecturer at the orthodontic postgraduate programme of the University of Regensburg & Frankfurt and currently, he is a lecturer at the ZahnärztlichesFortbildungsinstitut at the Brenner Institut of Vienna.   11. Orthodontially Facilitated Periodontics and Periodontially Facilitated Orthodontics Prof. RaffaeleSpena – Italy 1993- Degree in “Specialty in Orthodontics” at the University of Ferrara (Italy). Currently, he is Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of Ferrara. Dr. Spena has been and is still involved in several research projects. Since 1998, Dr. Spena has published several studies including an atlas of non-extraction techniques, the chapter on “Non-extraction Treatment” in a textbook entitled “Orthodontics - Current principles and techniques” and an atlas on Cetlin’s mechanics called “Non-extraction Treatment”. 2001 - Awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Orthodontics in Italy 2008 - Admitted to the E.B.O. (European Board of Orthodontics) in Lisbon (Portugal) He practices orthodontics in Naples (Italy). CongressConferences: Orthodontically Facilitated Periodontics and Periodontically Facilitated Orthodontics In the past decade a new chapter has developed in clinical orthodontics: the periodontially facilitated tooth movement. The aim is to reduce resistance and enhance the orthodontic movement of those teeth that require it. The author will try to elucidate the different aspects of piezocision, segmental corticotomy, PAOO, osteotomies and several clinical cases will be presented. The CCO Prescription: Advantage and Flexibility in Treating Complex Adult Patients Tips on how to improve the use of the SWA’s and these new prescriptions will be presented with clinical examples. New thermal NiTi wires and active self-ligating brackets have made the necessary changes to improve biomechanical management and the final outcome of our clinical cases. CCO prescriptions have evolved from these needs.

Hundreds of orthodontists in those countries have adopted the PUL for their patients, including treatment for adults Conference subject: The presentation will include a detailed description of the PUL (Propulseur Universal Light) and a review of different types of clinical cases treated with the PUL. The objective of the PUL Concept is to transform difficult cases with unfavorable growth to a simple Class I nonextraction case that is favorable to growth and facial harmony.
