  5. VENUES and FIELDS • WITH SOCCER GROWTH THE NEED FOR RECTANGLE FIELDS WILL INCREASE • A PERMANENT FOOTBALL FACILITY IS REQUIRED • ADDITIONAL ADULT SIZE BASEBALL FIELDS REQUIRED • SIZE OF FASTBALL FIELDS NEED TO BE INCREASED, FENCES MOVED BACK • TENNIS LOOKING FOR INDOOR FACILITIES FOR YEAR ROUND PLAY. • MORE ICE TIME SO LEAGUES CAN INCREASE THEIR NUMBER. • CRICKET LOOKING FOR A PITCH FOR THEIR SPORT • BEHIND OTHER CITIES WITH REGARDS TO RECTANGLE FIELDS, LIGHTED FIELDS, BLEACHERS AND ARTIFICIAL TURF. • (example – possible solution) – Note: Baseball fields in example would need to be replaced

  7. MAINTENANCE • BETTER MAINTENANCE REQUIRED OF FIELDS AND VENUES. • REGULATION OF WHEN FIELDS CAN BE USED SHOULD DEPEND ON FIELD QUALITY – FOR EXAMPLE WE ARE NOT TO GO ON TO FIELDS UNTIL EARLY MAY BUT THERE ARE TIMES THAT CONDITIONS ALLOW FOR EARLIER USE. • CENTRAL RESOURCE REQUIRED TO ANNOUNCE FIELD SCHEDULES, CHANGES AND CANCELLATIONS.

  8. SPORTS GROUP COMMUNICATION • SPORTING GROUPS NEED TO WORK TOGETHER TO HELP PROMOTE SPORTS IN GENERAL, CREATING A LARGER AND UNIFIED VOICE FOR ADDITONAL FIELDS, VENUES, UPGRADES AND UPKEEP. • VOLUNTEERS FROM DIFFERENT SPORTS COULD AID IN ANOTHER SPORT, PULLING OFF A PROVINCIAL, NATIONAL OR INTERNATIONAL EVENT FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

  9. ELITE AND NATIONAL SPORT EVENTS • THE COMBINED EFFORTS OF GROUPS THROUGH SPORTS KAWARTHA COULD HELP IN ATTRACTING THESE TYPES OF EVENTS. • SMALLER COMMUNITIES THAN OURS HAVE ATTRACTED PROVINCIAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL EVENTS. Example: 2010 Women’s World Curling Championship, Swift Current, population 15,000. • ADDITIONAL AND UPGRADED FACILITIES WOULD LEAD TO GETTING THESE TYPES OF EVENTS.

  10. ECONOMIC BENEFITS • LOCAL SPORTS GROUPS BRING ECONOMIC VALUE TO THE CITY THROUGH FIELD RENTALS, EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORM PURCHASES, REGISTRATION AND SUPPORT OF THE LOCAL HOSPITALITY BUSINESS. • A PROVINCIAL, NATIONAL OR INTERNATIONAL EVENT WOULD BE OF VALUE TO REGIONAL HOTELS, RESTAURANTS, STORES etc.

  11. FINANCING • THE GROUP POWER THROUGH SPORTS KAWARTHA MAY AID IN GETTING PUBLIC AND PRIVATE FUNDING PARTNERSHIPS, WHICH WOULD BENEFIT GROUP MEMBERS AND THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE. • EXAMPLES OF SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIPS: - BETHUNE and SIMCOE BASKETBALL COURT - NEW RUGBY CLUBHOUSE – A HERITAGE BUILDING FROM THE LAWN BOWLING CLUB - ROTARY TRAILS - WELLNESS CENTRE - NEW TRENT ATHLETIC CENTRE

  12. CONCLUSION – SETTING PRIORITIES • MULTI PURPOSE FIELDS WITH TURF • PARTNERSHIPS • MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT IMPLEMENTS 3 SPORTING PRIORITIES WITHIN THE NEXT 2 YEARS. FOR EXAMPLE; 1. Multi purpose turf field 2. Attract an elite sporting event 3. Upgrade current facilities
