  3. Drink plenty of water • Maintain body hydration • 7-9 glasses of water a day • Avoid caffeine and alcohol Moisture is a necessary lubricant of the vocal folds

  4. Don't abuse or misuse your voice • Don’t smoke causes inflammation and polyps of the vocal cords makes the voice very husky, hoarse, and weak. laryngeal (voice box) cancer

  5. Try not to scream or yell • Try not to talk in noisy environments • Minimize throat clearing

  6. Balance extra vocal demands with voice rest try to reduce vocal use before and after extended episodes of talking Use non-vocal cues to gain students' attention

  7. Humidify the Environment Use a humidifier or a hot shower for additional hot, moist air.

  8. Warm up your voice before heavy use general stretching through less to more strenuous usage. begin in the mid-range with easy production 7-10 minutes of warm-up is usually the minimum.

  9. Some additional tips: Avoid using menthol, eucalyptus and mint lozenges Use a personal microphone and speaker. Get an exam once a year by an ENT physician or a laryngologist

  10. Make vocal health a priority Most voice problems are related to improper voice use and/or life stress. Taking care of your voice means taking care of your self!
