ORIGINS OF THE PODCAST • PODCAST term acronym derived from a combination of “pod” (capsule) and Broadcast (dissemination-issue) • Its direct antecedents are audioblogs, variants weblog or “bitácoras”. • Consist of a gallery and audio files in different formats, published by one or more authors. • Other Podcast antecedents in technology are P2P networks and applications receiving content through RSS format based on XML.

History • The origin of podcasting is situated around te year 2004, when Adam Curry used a specific format of RSS. • By a tag called <enclosure> added audio files to an RSS file and decided to create a program to manage those files, which he called iPodder, in relation to the portable music player that had an iPod * RSS: ReallySimplySindication, is a XML format for syndicating or sharing content on the web
