SEISMIC BRACING FOR MECHANICAL SYSTEMS IN LDS TEMPLES Solution We researched seismic code requirements from ASCE 7-10 as well as design guides by ASHRAE and SMACNA. We were able to meet with professionals in order to understand what causes different bids. We designed detailed drawings and specifications using Autodesk Revit in order to condense the information we found. These Revit sheets will assist in having “apple to apple” bids. We also created an Excel spreadsheet that can be used to determine the maximum brace spacing for pipe systems. Problem Statement The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints builds temples throughout the world. Seismic design for bracing mechanical systems is an important issue for the church. In order to have project bids be “apple to apple” it was necessary to create a list of specifications, detailed drawings, and an Excel spreadsheet to assist in the design and bid process.
