  1. Beauty and the Beast • By Heather Huntrods

  2. Exposition Once upon a time there was a girl named Belle. Belle lived with her father, Maurice, who was a merchant. She had six brothers and five sisters.

  3. Complication Belle’s house caught on fire, her father’s ships were destroyed, and her father’s clerks were unfaithful, which forced them into poverty.

  4. Rising Action When one of his ships made it to port, Maurice left to claim his earnings. Little did he know that his companions had split the money between them. Before he left, all but Belle asked for extravagant gifts, Belle asked for a Rose. On his way home, he stopped at a castle to rest. The next morning he found a rose and picked it for Belle. The Best appeared and demanded he stay or bring one of his daughters in his place.

  5. Rising Action Given a month, Maurice returned home to say goodbye to his children. After telling them his story, Belle offered to take his place. Belle returned with her father and lived with the beast, but she wasn’t happy with him. As time passes, she began to care for Beast, and he for her. However, time for Beast was running out. If she did not say she loved him and agree to marry him, he would die.

  6. Climax Beauty was sad and wished to see her family, so Beast let her, but made her promise to return in two months or she would find him dead. He gave her a ring and told her that when she wished to return, all she had to do was turn the ring he gave her around her finger and say “I wish to go back to my palace and see my She went home, but missed her Beast Again.” She returned two months later and, as he had said would happen, Beast was dying because he thought she had forgotten her promise.

  7. Falling action As soon as Belle saw her Beast dying, she ran to him and told him that she loved him. He replied “Can you really love such an ugly creature as I am?” He sent her to dinner, promising to join her later. After a while he came to her and talked to her about her visit home.

  8. Denouement Before he left for the night, Beast asked Belle, as he did every night, if she would marry him. And she answered, “Yes, dear Beast.” At that moment, fireworks and sparks began to spring up everywhere. When Belle looked back at Beast, he had changed into a charming prince. With his mother’s, who had suddenly appeared with her companion, permission, Beast and Belle were married the next day and lived happily ever after
