  1. Deer Management Plan: 4 Things They Should All Have Every property owner that enjoys hunting or lodge owner that makes a profit from hunting trips is aware of the importance of a proper deer management strategy. These can determine whether a season is successful, and whether a hunting lodge is a successful business. There are key elements that every management plan needs to have to guarantee that they help a person thoroughly evaluate their land and wildlife. They should cover the primary needs of this population, such as water, food and shelter, as well as a close estimate of the number of animals on the land. Wildlife A proper management strategy will include a complete wildlife survey, and steps that need to be taken to correct problems. This can be completed by various methods that involve surveying the entire land to determine what wildlife are on the land, including how many deer are on the land. It is important to include other wildlife that are on the land because this has a large impact on the deer population. Loud noises from other wildlife can startle these animals, and it is wise not to have any predators on the land that will hurt the deer population. A thorough survey will tell land owners what wildlife is on the land and how many of each animal there are so that they can develop a strategy to increase or decrease wildlife as they see fit. Vegetation A proper plan will include a section regarding vegetation. This will include how much vegetation is currently on the land, how much is necessary to sustain the current wild life population, and how much vegetation is necessary to sustain population growth. This will help land owners gain knowledge regarding how much more vegetation they need. Deer will go on other land if there is not enough food, making this a vital part of any management plan. Water All animals need water to survive, making this another vital part of any plan. A complete survey should be conducted to ensure that there is adequate water to sustain the current population. If there is not, land owners will need to increase the amount of water on the land. This can include creating man made ponds or creeks that animals can drink out of. Shelter Although part of hunting is killing the animal, land owners do not want to eliminate the animals shelter so that they are easier to hunt. This is a common mistake made by many first-time lodge owners. Instead, owners want to increase the number of burrows and provide tall, grassy areas to make the wildlife population feel safe. This will help keep them on the land. If animals do not feel safe, they will seek shelter elsewhere. There are many more things that land owners need to consider in order to guarantee that every season is a successful season for hunters, such as the age and sex of the wildlife population,

  2. but these four primary goals are an exceptional way to get started towards a complete management plan that will cover every aspect of the land as well as strategies to guarantee success every season.
