  3. It takes a little more to be a Tiger! Every class counts in high school - your grades and attitude matter! High school is a new beginning – you determine your success! Your 8th grade performance impacts how well you will do in high school, so we need you to finish strong so you can start strong as a Tiger!

  4. FAQ 9th Graders have CLOSED campus for lunch Lunch is 40 minutes long 5 minute passing time between classes LC web site: lctigers.com • School ends at 2:30 everyday, but starts at: • 8:00 M-T-W-F • 8:30 Thursday

  5. CHOOSING CLASSES Give careful attention to your choices now so you can get the classes you want and need. We do very few schedule changes in the Fall.

  7. CHALLENGE YOURSELF We encourage you to stretch and challenge yourself with a Pre-AP course: Prepares you for Advanced Placement (college-level classes) in grades 10-12 The content is accelerated for students who can learn at a quicker pace Content is more in-depth

  11. Required Classes ENGLISH OPTIONS ENGLISH 9 PRE-AP ENGLISH 9 Pre-AP has a required summer assignment. It will be posted on our web site as soon as it is available.

  12. Social Studies SOCIAL STUDIES OPTIONS WORLD HISTORY 9 AP EUROPEAN HISTORY* *AP European History is a college-levelcourse - You must have strong reading and writing skills, and be willing to put in extra time to be successful.

  13. Mathematics MATHEMATICS OPTIONS PRE-AP ALGEBRA II ALGEBRA PRE-AP GEOMETRY The next step after 8th grade math The next step after Algebra in 8thgrade The next step after Geometry in 8th grade

SCIENCE OPTIONS 1ST YEAR PHYSICS SCIENCE 9 CHEM/PHYSICS 1ST YEAR CHEMISTRY MESA SCIENCE 9 One semester chemistry, one semester physics • Rigorous Pre-AP Options • Both are the same as the junior-level science classes • Strongly suggested that you have taken Algebra in middle school Same as Science 9, but only for girls & students of color

  16. FITNESS OPTIONSONE SEMESTER REQUIRED FITNESS ATHLETE OPTION SVL SVL FITNESS Most 9th graders take Fitness at LC during the day for one semester. Online class option for LC athletes or if you are in a club sport. Online fitness option if you aren’t in a LC sport or club sport.

HEALTH OPTIONSONE SEMESTER REQUIRED HEALTH SCIENCE CAREERS HEALTH SVL HEALTH Focus is on living a healthy life and making good choices Focus is on medical careers & health of others (can be a full year class, so you could take Fitness on SVL) Online class This is the same curriculum as Health

  20. SELECTING ELECTIVES You MUST select 5 options for electives. We will try to give you your 1st choice, but we need alternatives if the classes fill up.

  21. WORLD LANGUAGE OPTIONS Chinese French JapaneseSpanish • We offer up to 5th year in Spanish and 4th year in the other languages. • If you took Spanish in middle school, you can choose between Spanish 2nd Year and Pre-AP Spanish 2nd Year (with teacher permission)

CTE: AVID AVID(Advancement Via Individual Determination) Students with Academic Potential: Average to high test scores 2.0-3.5 GPA Has college potential but may need support Desire and determination First in family to attend or graduate from college Historically Underserved in 4-year Colleges There will be an application and interview process to be accepted into AVID.
