My Possible Future in Law Enforcement By Jackson Lanier 2/1/12
  2. Earnings The average earning for a position in law enforcement is $52,810
  3. Educational Requirements For the simplest of positions, all that is needed is a high school degree. To progress in this line of work, a college degree would be very helpful. A military back ground would ensure a future as well.
  4. Entry Level Positions and Advancement You can enter the line of law enforcement in different areas, such as a typical police officer. Advancement is very possible, probably necessary for someone who wish to pursue this line of work and hopes to make a higher income.
  5. Nature of Work Police officers work about 40 hours a week Shifts are needed 24 hours around the clock Some aspects of the job might include: equipping yourself with gear, riding on a horse, bike, car, or motorcycle, arresting criminals, testifying in court, or chasing criminals.
  6. Working Conditions Police officers work in all conditions. Weather and time of day have no effect on weather a police officer may be working or not. An officer may have a job working in an outdoor environment or at a desk or anywhere in between.
  7. Job Outlook Around 661,500 people currently work in this position Employment will have increased by about 9% by 2018
  8. Advantages of this Career Working and dealing with a wide variety of people Staying in good physical shape Being promoted to higher positions in the world of law enforcement
  9. Disadvantages of this Career Dealing with unusual or dangerous people. (Actual Mug shots)
  10. Disadvantages Cont. Dealing with co-workers
  11. Why is this Career a Possibility? I have literally no interest in any career path or burning desire to take my life in a specific direction. My thought is that I will stay out of trouble if I am the one enforcing the law. I don’t enjoy being around one type of person, the same group of people, or some people at all, for that matter. I feel like as a police officer I will be exposed to different types of people everyday and life will remain interesting.
  12. How can I prepare Staying in shape Staying on the right side of the law Staying drug free Staying in Personal Finance
