  2. National Honor Society National Honor Society is a national organization that recognizes students who show outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership, character, and service. We are a community service organization that is committed to making our school and community better, but we also believe in making sure our members are always the best they can be by getting the best grades and staying out of trouble.
  3. National Honor Society To be in National Honor Society, students have to keep and maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average You have to be voted in by a panel of teachers who agree that the student is a good  representative of leadership and character. By the national rules, you can’t get invited to join NHS until spring of your sophomore year, but you have to start working for it now by getting good grades and staying out of trouble!
  4. Christian Club All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness 2 Timothy 3:16 The Christians Club shall educate students about the bible and other religions. It will promote Christianity and the belief in the God of the bible.
  5. Christian Club The Christians Club shall promote and maintain orderly conduct, high academic standards, and “Christ like” attitude. The Christian Club shall be open to any students wishing to participate in the activities and studies provided by the club. Meetings are on Wednesday’s at lunch in Mrs. Cornelison’s room.
  6. Renaissance A reward club for students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  3.0 is Silver 3.5 is Gold 4.0 is Platinum.  It also looks excellent on your college applications. Students with Gold or Platinum may waive a final at the end of the semester.  All renaissance members get out early for lunch on Wednesdays.  All “get out of class” activities are Renaissance ONLY this year.
  7. Softball Softball Team/Club – Practice begins February 2014. Coach Amanda Amann (Varsity), Assistant Mark Ruckle (Varsity), Steve Hardesty (Varsity), Gary Howells (Varsity) – JC Ferris(JV), Ed Marquez (JV). We will begin holding meetings sometime in September for upcoming fundraisers.
  8. Speech and DebateTradition of Winning We have won over 100 tournaments. We have over 50 individual state championships. We have won state 12 times, runner-up 3 times, 3rd twice, 4th once. We are one of the largest teams in AZ. We have two goals: develop each student’s skills to succeed, then win STATE.
  9. Local and National Awards Arizona Speech/Debate Educator of the Year, ‘01-’02. Community Achievement Award, Educational Programs, ‘02. National Federation Interscholastic Speech and Debate Association Outstanding Speech & Theater Educator Award, Section 7, which is California, Hawaii, New Mexico, Arizona, ’02
  10. Local and National Awards National Forensic League, National Award for Excellence in Speech, ’07. National Forensic League, 100 Club, Top 10% of national chapters: 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006.
  11. Season & Tournaments Season: Start: First Day of School; Meet Monday/Wednesday 3:00 to 5:00 End: April 1st * 7 months of competing 8 months coaching 8 to 12 tournaments a year. Tournament: Friday: 2:00 pm until 10:00 p.m. Saturday: 7:00 am until 8:00 p.m. Total 20 hours
  12. HOSEHealth Occupations Students of America Anyone interested in a health care career, such as: doctors, nurses, dental assistant, dental hygienist, radiologist, phlebotomist?? Meet Tuesday mornings at 8:00am in B-105. Go on the website azhosa.org to explore all things HOSA!
  13. River Valley Brazilian JiuJitsu and Judo * Must have * Physical on file * Waiver of liability and parent consent. *Proof of insurance * Classes will be held before zero hour 7:30-8:30 AM. Gay-straight Alliance (GSA) The Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) promotes awareness of homophobia and anti-LGBTQ bullying and harassment and encourages the population of River Valley High School to accept and respect all individuals regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.  Meetings are on Tuesdays during zero-hour in Mr. Rice’s room A-105.
  16. Gay-straight Alliance (GSA) The GSA holds several events or days of action during the year including Ally Week in October and the International Day of Silence in April. The GSA is open to any an all students who want to make River Valley High School a safe and welcoming place.
  17. Student Council Student Council: handles most events on campus; spirit weeks, pep rallies, dances, etc.. We meet as a class everyday during 4th period and conduct business meetings every Thursday.  Students must have a 2.5 GPA to run for a class office.  They must have a 3.0 and have been on student council for at least one year to run for a student body position.  Elections will be in the Spring for the 2014-2015 school year. 
  18. Novel Ninjas Creative Writing Club – Novel Ninjas: We get together and write together on various topics. We participate in National Novel Writing Month, which is in November. We share our stories and plan to compile our work for a book to be in the library. Novel Ninjas meet every Wednesday during Zero Hour in Miss Riney’s room B-107, unless noted otherwise on announcements.
  19. Swim Team The first official day of practice for swimming is August 12. We swim at the Needles Aquatic Center. A van will take students who cannot drive to the pool and back to River Valley to be picked up. If you are interested in swimming, see Coach Riney in room B107. Never swum before? That’s okay! Come out anyways! It is a great way to exercise, compete, and/or stay in shape for winter and spring sports.
  20. Swim Team Right now, Coach Riney and Coach Wharton are having conditioning workouts daily from 3:30-4:30 in the Weight Room and New Gym. All are welcome!
  21. Archery The Archery Club shall promote the art of marksmanship. The Archery Club shall promote and maintain good sportsmanship and high academic standards. The Archery Club shall be open to any students wishing to participate in the art of marksmanship. See Mr. Lechman for details.
  22. FCCLA and Culinary FCCLA is a student led, nationally affiliated organization whose goal is to promote leadership skills in young adults in Family and Consumer Science (FACS) classes, such as Culinary Arts.  Culinary Arts is a Career and Technical CTE related field where students learn skills to use in building a  career and aids in career planning. 
  23. FCCLA It is well established that today's students learn best through hands-on, meaningful experiences. The Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) youth leadership organization and the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) complete your Culinary Arts program by providing these experiences.  FCCLA is the only Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) with the family as the central focus.  FCCLA offers competitions and scholarship opportunities and integrates youth leadership and student-directed learning into your Culinary Arts classes. Arizona FCCLA has over 4,000 members; 1,000 members attended their state conference this year.  For more information, contact Mrs. Jackson, meetings are Tuesday’s at lunch
  24. Culinary Students have several great opportunities through our Culinary program: 1. Earn college credits at MCC toward your Associates degree  while still in high school! 2. Successfully complete 2 years -  Culinary Arts I and Culinary Arts II and earn a credit to satisfy a science credit. 3. We are working on the same benefit for math credit! Students need to be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior, so plan for your sophomore year to take Culinary Arts!
  25. SkillsUSA Mission is to empower its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible citizens. We elect officers. Regional competition is in Yuma, state competition in Phoenix, nationals in KC, Missouri, and world championships in Germany.
  26. SkillsUSA Awards In the brief two years of competition, we have had 4 regional winners, 7 state medalist, 3 state champions, and three national qualifiers. We have leadership training in Prescott, Phoenix and Washington D.C. See Mr. Jackson –C-102 for details
  27. Performing Arts We NOW have BAND, CHOIR and Keyboarding (the piano kind) See Mr. Carlson in G-101 or the counselors if you would like to add one of these classes!
  28. Want to Ride Coasters? Join Math Club! Like free food? Join Math Club! Don’t want to do math? That’s OK with us. RVHS Math Club … We have fun. Meetings Wednesdays at lunch in Mr. Grant’s room.
  29. Desert Ecology Meetings are on Friday’s at lunch in E-105, Mrs. Cornelison’s room. The club participates in a 22 mile backpacking trip to Havasupai Falls

Baseball Baseball Spring Sport Freshmen through Seniors Must pass drug test and meet grade requirements like every other sport Open Field will start in November (listen for the announcements) Regular practice starts in February (listen for the announcements) Coach LaCasse room E-101 for any questions
  31. Spiritline Promote and uphold school spirit, unity, and pride. Represent the school to the highest degree. Set an example of good behavior and sportsmanship at all times (whether in uniform or not). Promote friendship with each other and with schools with whom we compete, perform and go to camp. Promote the development of lifelong values and skills.
  32. Spiritline Summer camps and practices Season runs from August to March. We cheer and or perform at all pep rallies, home football and basketball games as well as some volleyball, soccer and baseball games. We also help at other school and community events! Try-outs are in April or May for the following school year.
