Results from Slave Rebellions • After Nat Turner discussion of abolishing slavery in VA…instead… • Harsh slave codes • Written passes to leave plantations • Illegal to hold meetings w/o supervision • Could not have access to weapons • Could not marry • Children were property • Task system ends • Purchasing freedom virtually impossible • Harsh and lasting punishments • Whipping, branding, shackling, beating, hobbling, mutilation, death
