What is spoken tutorial • Spoken tutorial is an audio-video tool used to teach Open Source Software, Course, Certificate and Training COMPLETELY FREE of COST from IIT BOMBAY, Spoken Tutorial Project. • Students learn a software in short simple steps in an interactive manner, by themselves, no expert teacher is needed……..over 1 lakh students trained across India in 2 years, distance learning method • Videos teach by Simulation – one can replicate the instructions, build and run the highly manageable programs ----------listening always better than reading Advantages • In programming there is nothing like writing your own program, compiling and running it…….open source so FREE to download, no licensing cost. • Once installed, learning can be offline-----no internet needed • It helps that instead of reading theory you see the concept in a small program, do it,  practice it and understand it hands on very simply-------learning in the college lab itself, no need to leave campus

Anna University’s Qic & spoken tutorial • Spoken Tutorial is one of the essential components given in QIC • Java, C/C++, Linux, MySQL, GIMP (Graphics lab) are already covered in syllabus,,,CSE/ECE etc. • Scilab is very essential for all Engg. & Science streams and is free open source, so colleges do not need to spend lakhs of Rs., on purchase of Matlab • LaTeX is a must and the best software for Technical Writing, students will find it useful for their project reports------Teachers also ! • With Spoken Tutorials students will lose their initial fear and build their confidence as well as FAST TRACK their learning of the software • In colleges with Teacher shortage, the self learning of software offered using Spoken Tutorials is much needed

  4. Roll out of spoken tutorial training in AU • Each faculty member present here from the 25 colleges can register on the website and become a member of the program – by Dec 9th • They can request a training workshop (FDP) in Scilab for their college faculty or a batch of students…… Scilab is useful for ALL Engg., disciplines – by Dec 16th • Each college can then guide the colleges that come in their cluster or group to register and request workshops or FDP in their colleges • Workshops on any Software can be organised in the lab hours for students, only 2 hours slots are necessary

  6. Spoken tutorial training workshops • For each software the training consists of a first session which is 2 hours long, followed by 6-7 hours of self revision and a 1 hour long online assessment test to be taken within a month • The 2 hour session or workshop can be accommodated in the lab hours of the related course being taught • Once it is downloaded from the website and installed in the systems, learning can be offline so internet is not needed • The course content includes the Software, 10 minute long video tutorials to cover the various topics, Assignment questions and Instruction sheet • It is suited for individual self learning without the need of an expert Teacher • Students do not need to leave the campus but learn in their own labs • Students do not have to pay 1000s of Rs. to learn- Course, Training, Certificate is FREE of COST • Guidance is provided by team at IIT Bombay
