  1. Contour Drawing F-Block, 9/7/12 Ms. Scudder

  2. Do now • Gather materials • Clipboard • 10sheets of newsprint • Pencils (from front table) • Erasers (from front table) • Clip sheets of newsprint into your clipboard. • Take off one shoe and put in on the table in front of you. • Sit quietly until more directions are given

  3. Review: Contour Drawing • Drawing using line to follow visible edges of a shape • Emphasize mass and volume over detail • Important! Not all contours exist along the outlines of a subject. • Observational skills! Draw truly what the eye is seeing.

  4. Double-Blind Contour Drawing • Grab a pencil. Without looking at your paper, create a contour drawing of your shoe. • NEW TWIST: Eyes must be closed!! You must scan your non-drawing hand along the contours of your shoe and draw what you feel.

  5. Blind Contour • Without looking at your paper, draw your shoe. • How did drawing what you see compare to drawing what you feel? • What three types of contour drawing have we done so far? • “Free” contour • Blind contour • Double-blind contour • What skills did you rely on in doing these drawings?

  6. Contour Shoe • Draw your shoe 4 times. • In profile (toe to the right, heel to the left) • Bird’s eye view (from above) • On a diagonal • Straight on (from the front: toe is closest to you, heel is farthest away)
