  3. Roosevelt’s Rise to Power • Roosevelt is Inaugurated- 1st wanted to restore confidence in banks • Bank Run- many depositors withdrawing money at once • He declared “bank holidays” to prevent bank runs until crisis was resolved

  4. Hundred Days Begins • New Deal: FDR’s policies to end the Depression • Government needs to regulate economy • Deficit spending paid for programs

  5. Fixing the Banks & Stock Market • Emergency Bank Relief Act • Fireside Chats: FDR informed and reassured citizens by radio

  8. Industrial Recovery • National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA): regulate industry • National Recovery Administration (NRA): established set prices

  9. Providing Debt Relief • Home Owners Loan Corporation (HOLC)- refinanced home mortgages • Farm Credit Administration- help farmers refinance mortgages at low interest rates

  10. Spending & Relief Programs • Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)- focused on creating jobs • Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA)- alleviate household unemployment

  11. Spending & Relief Programs • Public Works Administration (PWA)- did not discriminate against African Americans • Civil Works Administration (CWA)- focused on creating employment in govt. jobs
