    Slide 1:Senior Class Retreat

    Slide 2:Kairos is a Greek word that means Gods Time. On the Kairos Retreat, we take three days to experience Gods time, Gods love and Christian community. It is a sacred time for all of us to reflect upon our relationship with God, with others, and with self. Kairos is led by a team of The College staff and students and will be held at Grce Dieu, Waterford.

    Slide 3:This retreat is an opportunity to explore our relationship with ourselves, our community, and with God. Retreatants are invited to reflect on their own faith journey and begin to deepen their spiritual lives. Conversation, prayer, social activities, and community reflection allow for a powerful and enriching retreat experience.

    Slide 4:The intention of the retreat is to gather a diversity of students to share their stories and listen to the stories of others with the goal of seeking the presence of God in all things. Student leaders under the guidance of a staff member offer presentations on faith, spirituality, and self-reflection.

    Slide 5:Students should be prepared to engage in small group reflection, conversation, and consideration of their own faith experience. If individuals have faith questions or are formulating new experiences of faith expression this retreat will offer them an opportunity to begin to deepen their spiritual growth.

    Slide 6:Going on a Kairos retreat in Sixth year is NOT a requirement. Students choosing to attend Kairos desire to listen, to learn, and to participate fully. They should strive to be open to the message of Gods love in this world and in their lives. They should willing comply with the conduct policies of Terenure College, the Retreat Center, and the Kairos Retreat Team.

    Slide 7:Kairos focuses on the creation of a community which is all inclusiveall loving...all forgiving. Adolescents are by nature very group oriented, so this dynamic speaks to where they are socially and developmentally. The first challenge of the retreat is getting the students to translate a social need into a spiritual reality, that is, to have retreatants recognise that a Kairos community is God-centred.

    Slide 8:The most important challenge is to invite retreatants to expand the boundaries of this sacred community to include everything and everyone they encounter in their everyday lives. God is found in everyone and in all things, they are told, not just on retreat.

    Slide 9:As the retreat unfolds, participants are invited to see all relationships flowing from a center. When the retreatants apply this understanding to their own lives, new perspectives about God, others, and ones own self evolve. For many retreatants, this can be very moving, and I mean that literally..their worldview can shift, sometimes dramatically.

    Slide 12:"One highlight of the retreat is the fact that most students that participate do not come from the same social circles, creating a group linked only by faith and past experiences. The need for an open, trusting atmosphere, plus the introspectively challenging structure of the weekend, leaves all participating with new found ways of viewing the world in which we preside, specifically, in terms of our faith. "There is not one day that goes by where I don't consciously or subconsciously apply something I learned from Kairos to my life. We all face challenges as Christians living in a society where beliefs are so varied. Kairos has made me recognize how simple it is to integrate God into our every day lives, while becoming a better person and Christian as a result." "Although the retreat is only about two and a half days, I personally, feel as though I had been on a week's vacation after each Kairos experience. It is a refreshing and powerful getaway that creates a chance to grow as a Christian person and meet others of the same beliefs, values, and morals."
